Can searching using spotlight be used for drives other than the system drive?
That is other drives in the Mac Pro or attached external drives. If so how?

Checked and it is searching in this case the time machine drive.
It is searching and finding files on that drive but not in the time machine backup folder. Is that because it can't search that folder. What I'm trying to do is find all recurrences of a particular file in the time machine backup.

Go into the time machine folder with the Finder, then hit Cmd-F and build your query, and click the option where it says Search: "Backups.backupdb"
Also, its somewhat unrelated but what else do you have on the TM drive besides the TM folder?

No nothing else on the TM drive. Just put a file there to see if I could find it. Thanks again
