iPhoto hangs on start (loading photos...)

Hi,

I am trying to upload some new photos from my camera into iPhoto (version 7.1.5). However, when I launch iPhoto (camera not attached), it displays the "loading photos..." message, and then I get the spinning beach ball. I only have a couple of hundred photos in my library.

I'm pretty sure it is not a problem with either my library or my preferences, because I created a new user account, and the same thing happens when I run iPhoto from that account.

About the only thing I can recall doing since my last photo import back in November '08 was to install Picasa for Mac. I must have uninstalled it later, because it's no longer in my Applications folder. Could it have broken iPhoto?

Any suggestions?

This problem seems to have fixed itself after I installed the most recent security update (2009-001) from Software Update, and rebooted my Mac.

I had this problem with 08 and 09, 09 didn't fix it.
