Hey guys and gals, I have had this problem for some time now, but it only just occurred to me that someone out there has the knowledge to help me before I format my MBP and re-install leopard again.

Everytime I open iTunes it quits within 5 seconds unexpectedly. I have uninstalled it using AppZapper, re-installed it, deleted songs, podcasts, everything, and yet not only does it continue to quit once open, but it somehow still knows my settings and podcast subscriptions.

Try making a new user account and importing all your songs into that.

If it works, its something bust with files relating to iTunes in ~/Library, or your ~/Music/iTunes folder.

Oh, and try updating to 10.5.4.

3rd edit: Or it could be a corrupt music file. I've heard of those causing the crashes. It may be trying to do soundcheck in the background and the soundcheck thread is smacking against a corrupt file and crashing the app.

well.... i have the same problem.
same version of itunes. but on 10.5.4

BUT. it ONLY crashes when trying to connect to the itunes store. i just bought an app off there less than 15 minutes ago.
and now it crashes every time. even on another user account!

Try this from the MacFixIt site… iTunes 7.7: shuts down when attempting to access the iTunes store - MacFixIt. Possibly something to do with network settings.

it was at uni. but works at home. go figure. (i had just bought the app at uni before that as well!)

well after i deleted all my songs and podcasts, I now am having the problem of restarts when accessing the itunes store.

so after i read the above article, it gave me an idea. I just changed the location (found in the drop down apple menu top left corner) to automatic, as oppose to my uni settings.

all is working.... for now

ath. i also have an app plug in sort of thing called locamatic.
it changes your profile (location) according to the SSID of the wireless you are connected to.

the best apps are the ones you dont notice, but cant live without

Yeah this bug had me really confused and pissed off for the first four days of owning my MacBook Pro, turned out it was a combination of OS X > 10.5.3 and the fact we use a automatic proxy config file at my workplace.

As soon as I manually entered the proxy details the problem disappeared.

Was a bugger to diagnose as it would work at home, and it worked at Computers Now because it was using different network locations (as i have many) at each place.
