Hi, im using Server 10.3.9.
Had a few problems the other week with mail not working, eventually fixed with the following method serveradmin stop mail mv /var/imap/ /var/imap.old mkdir /var/imap /usr/bin/cyrus/tools/mkimap chown -R cyrus:mail /var/imap sudo -u cyrus /usr/bin/cyrus/bin/reconstruct -i serveradmin start mail However now Imap is timing out for two of my users who need to use imap. Entourage can see the imap folders and even how many emails are in them. But it keeps bring up some crap Entourage error -17895 (which could mean anything) On the server log I get this error message though Jan 30 18:01:43 mail imap[564]: login: [192.168.254.248] CRAM-MD5 User logged in Jan 30 18:01:45 mail master[510]: process 564 exited, signaled to death by 6 Does anyone know why it might be killing off this process? Have tried starting and stopping the imap service but to no avail. Cheers! |

Thanks Clockwork,
Yeah Entourage throws out the -17895 with the error message "Connection to the server failed or was dropped." No ISP, im running the mail server on 10.3.9 I had to rebuild the users databases on the server last week as they were corrupt. Using the following method serveradmin stop mail mv /var/imap/ /var/imap.old mkdir /var/imap /usr/bin/cyrus/tools/mkimap chown -R cyrus:mail /var/imap sudo -u cyrus /usr/bin/cyrus/bin/reconstruct -i serveradmin start mail Everyone's POP mail is working fine now, just the two who need emails on the server using IMAP can't access them using entourage. On the server log I get this error message when they try to access their emails with IMAP Jan 30 18:01:43 mail imap[564]: login: [192.168.254.248] CRAM-MD5 User logged in Jan 30 18:01:45 mail master[510]: process 564 exited, signaled to death by 6 Entourage can see the imap folders and even how many emails are in them but it just keeps getting kicked off, so im positive it's a Server error, just don't know how to fix. |

Make sure they can telnet to the IMAP port on your server.
Also, make sure they can telnet to the POP port on your mail server. This will help to diagnose whats going on.

Just thinking with the recreation of the imap files are the permissions set correctly? I'm not sure if running disk utlity would sort this out but it may be worth a try, another thought is trying to connect to one of the imap accounts using apple's Mail client it may give you some more meaningfull error information if it is indeed a server problem.

I'm having this identical ERROR message/number problem for the last 2-3 weeks. As far as I can tell, it has nothing to do with imap settings as I'm using POP settings.
I've gone through a number of tests on other systems and webmail without problem SO I KNOW the problem lies with Entourage. What I've discovered today is that it only happens when the SEND & RECEIVE ALL script is executed. If I check the mail account individually I don't get the error, and the mail arrives. I've tried deleting and re-establishing the account info but get the same weird problem. Clearly it is not an error with account name or password and I have a number of other mail accounts on the same mail server using the same POP and SMTP settings that aren't a problem. Is this the point where I give up on Entourage? I'm very reluctant to do this, because I have a truck-load of data in terms of account info, mail folders and contents, calendars, schedules, addresses. I hope someone has a solution?
