Unhappy iMac wireless connection to Airport Extreme

I seem to have developed a problem with my iMac.

When the iMac is turned on and doing nothing, it is connected to my airport extreme with no problems. But when I start to browse the internet for anything, I start to get wireless dropouts. Have checked my config on both iMac and extreme and all is fine. I moved the extreme closer, in case the problem was distance related...problem still occurs.

Last night I took my work based Macbook home and run both side by side, doing indentical searches and downloads. Macbook never missed a beat but the iMac still keprt dropping out.

I have done some researching and cannot seem to find anything related to a possible wireless problem in the iMac. Has anybody had this happen to them before?..Is it worth getiing fixed or shoud I just revert back to connecting the iMac via CAT5 cable..
