Default Next-gen iMac with new keyboard at August 7 special event [Merged]

From AppleInsider

Quote:
Tapping the wizardry of industrial design chief Jonathan Ive and his team, the Cupertino-based Mac maker has reportedly crafted a super-slim external keyboard for the new Macs. It's said to draw upon the aesthetic and feel of the low-profile keyboard which was first integrated with the company's 13-inch MacBook portables in May of 2006.
I suppose a new keyboard is due (or overdue) as the current style has been around for a very long time... and is a dirt magnet - looks great but a bugger to clean.

No mention of a new mouse but I would have to assume that if the iMac is changing to brushed aluminium (allegedly) then the keyboard and mouse might also get a new finish.

I haven't used a MacBook keyboard. Does that flush style work well? Would it suit a desktop environment?

I just bought an apple wireless keyboard and it rocks.

If the make the new one sorta like the macbook keyboard, personally I would avoid it.

I'm not a big fan of the macbk keyboard.

it looks nice enough but doesn't feel as good as traditional kbs.

At first I was apprehensive about the MB keyboard but after a week or so I really liked it. I can't use a normal keyboard well anymore after using the MB everyday.

I remember getting my eMac with its... {looks underneath} [Apple Symbol] Keyboard, and HATING it after using the TAM's keyboard for about 7 years... [which uses a Powerbook 5500 keyboard, but with leather wrist pads and a touchpad instead of mouse]

But I guess it only took me a few weeks of constant use to get used to its different, much more clunky feel... and similarly, when I got the TAM, for a while I tossed its keyboard asside and kept using my Apple Adjustable Keyboard... seems I'd been so used to it...

We all adjust I guess... though I do have to say, despite using the same PC keyboard at work every day for 4 years, I still hated it... VERY clunky...

I haven't touched a MacBook yet... is their keyboard like the PowerBook G4's?

Edit:
Oh - just followed the link... I see.. very different from G4...

Maybe Apple will replace the mouse with a multi-touch pad... that would be nice. I'm over the mouse.

I'd never really thought of the MB keyboard as a prototype for a full-sized version. An intriguing possibility, and could result in a much thinner keyboard unit.

It would be nice to fashion the keys into a shape that is comfortable for the fingers to move across though...

After years with curved, allegedly ergonomic, keyboards, I now have a similar aversion to straight keyboards. And quality curved ones are becoming so much harder to find....

That is a very good point... If they make it very thin, and basically flat, then it will be bad for your wrist posture...

Somehow I imagine Apple not being that silly however... maybe it will be thinner, but still have legs on it to adjust the angle...

Anyone seen Ocean's 13? In one scene the security guard is sitting at a computer, and the keyboard was very slim, white keys encased in a brushed metal enclosure. Looked very Apple-like!

Default New Apple Wireless Keyboard?!

http://www.appletell.com/apple/comme...tails-surface/

Appletell (new to me) are reporting that the "new iMac" keyboard will be similar to the diNovo Edge, with backlighting / inbuilt front row remote / and i'd presume there's customisable keys etc.

This'll be one to look out for. I do love my current Apple Bluetooth keyboard, but find it a bit lacking on features. It does make up for it in style, however those features do nag at me a little sometimes!
